Rona Schlau

To the LISVH Family:

I am pleased to announce that Rona Schlau,R.N., has accepted the position of Director of Nursing for the Long Island State Veterans Home.  Ms. Schlau has been a nurse for over thirty five years and has served in senior nurse executive positions for over eighteen years.  She comes to us from the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center, a 609 bed long term care and rehabilitation facility located in Manhattan. The home is a part of the Archcare System operated by the Archdiocese of New York.  Rona served as their Chief Nursing Officer.

A recognized nurse leader, she brings both acute and long term care experience to our Home.  Rona earned her BSN from the California State University  at Fresno.  She went on to earn a Masters in Medical Genetics from the Sarah Lawrence College and a Masters in Nursing from Adelphi University.  In addition to her time spent at Archcare, Rona has also served as a Nurse Executive at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, Montefiore Medical Center and Saint Vincent’s Hospital.   The daughter a very active World War II veteran, Rona was very attracted to the Mission, Vision & Values of our Home and looks forward to leading our Department of Nursing.  She will begin her career here on Monday, June 13th, 2016.

I am grateful to Dr. Frank Cervo, Chairman of the Search Committee for his leadership with this important task.  I would like to thank the other members of the Search Committee as well.

Ongoing thanks must be given to Marion McEntee, R.N. for continuing to serve as our Interim Director of Nursing.   Many of you know that you cannot have a great nursing home without a great Nursing Department.  More important, our Nursing Department requires the leadership to meet the challenges of “Caring for America’s Heroes.”  It is my firm belief that Rona will continue the tradition of providing a clear vision and strong direction for our Nursing staff to excel and achieve success in delivering nursing care !!!!

Please join me in welcoming Rona to the Long Island State Veterans Home family.

Thank you.
